Ember & Root offers a modern take on traditional therapy and counseling for those seeking a new, alternative approach to creating long-lasting change.

 Our Approach

In addition to empathic listening and a carefully curated space to safely share your personal and unique narrative, Ember & Root encourages autonomy, self-healing and growth through a combination of two evidence-based treatments, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).

The success of EMDR and IFS relies on a strong and secure Sense of Self, a foundation that utilizes reliable coping skills and internal resourcing.

You will be introduced to these strategies in therapy. We utilize mindfulness and other strengths-based practices to continue to build your resilience and confidence in navigating life transitions and stressors.

 Behind the Scenes

Kyungjin “Katie” Lee

Administrator

Throughout her upbringing, Katie’s parents consistently demonstrated a commitment to holistic well-being. While her father specialized in holistic medicine and Acupuncture, her mother focused on nutrition and curating healthy, plant-based diets for those she cared for. As a result, her parents imparted the importance of positive thinking, promoting personal wellness for the mind, body, and soul, and inspiring others to do the same.

She has realized that the holistic well-being principles instilled in her by her parents has been instrumental in shaping her identity. As she has matured, Katie has learned to appreciate her surroundings, including people and nature and what they offer to her life. She frequently finds herself emulating the practices from childhood in all aspects of her life including her values in raising her own family.

Katie likes to spend most of her free time with her family.  She also loves spending time taking care of her garden in warmer seasons, baking, cooking, and taking some time to take care of herself with yoga, Pilates, and biking. She looks forward to continuing her contribution at Ember & Root and promoting mind-body wellness to the Plattsburgh community.

  Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know you are the right fit?

That is a great question, and you have every right in making this informed decision prior to scheduling your first appointment. That is why a free 15-minute consultation can be so beneficial (see the Rates/Insurance section of our website).

Please ask any questions you would like, both pertaining to you and your story, as well as who Anna is as a therapist. She is open to hearing YOU and providing psychology-based recommendations/referrals regardless of your interest in working with her. Her primary goal is to propel you forward in the direction that suits you best.

You will find that our answer to most therapy questions is: It DEPENDS - Therapy lasts for as long as your goals are met and you are satisfied with treatment and the overall direction of your therapeutic process.

Remember, you know yourself best, and you know if this is working for you.  No one, including myself, is holding you to a certain number of sessions.  I do provide a general guideline at the beginning of therapy that outlines your goals, a treatment plan to reach your goals and an approximate timeline of treatment.  This can change based on new goals you may have, and the rate at which you feel you are making progress.

If you are feeling the direction of therapy is not working, let’s talk about it!  Ember & Root is so open to feedback and your healing process at large.  We want what is BEST FOR YOU, even if that’s not with us.

Welcome!  A typical session lasts 50 min - 1 hr (with the exception of the initial intake session, which may last up to an hour and a half).  During this time, we will work together to meet your goals, while combining present day issues that are bothering you or weighing heavily.  What you bring to the table matters, and what you share is important.  It is the cornerstone to individualized treatment, and Anna deeply honors this aspect of therapy.

Often times, our weekly frustrations, stressors and triggers are interconnected, even related to our ultimate goals in therapy, and it’s our job to shed light on these connections.  Sometimes we find ourselves in emergency situations (i.e. a death in the family, car accident, loss of a job, or other traumatic event) that require immediate action to get you in a better place.  Anna specializes in this work, too.  At Ember & Root, we are very comfortable working with all aspects of your life - past, present and future - as a means to build awareness, strength and resilience to meet your ongoing goals.

We are honored! First, you may send them the link to the site with our contact information. We also have business cards located at the office, just ask! If you are a former client or we have worked together before, sharing your subjective experience is a great way to support this person in their decision-making process. After all, therapy takes a lot of courage and vulnerability, and it’s important to support this person in their autonomy and readiness for change, above all else.
